Judge Blocks Trump Effort to Slash Federal Jobs
On Tuesday, a federal judge temporarily blocked President Trump’s efforts to massively scale back the size of the federal government by cutting jobs and killing grants. Later on Tuesday, The White House offered to “buy out” employees willing to leave their jobs by Sept. 30.
Trump’s efforts to cut government spending via executive action may result in the loss of thousands of federal jobs and student grants. Federal agencies that support vulnerable communities are unsure if they will receive funding to sustain their operations. Students at public universities such as Rutgers in New Jersey are posting with concerns about how Trump’s actions will affect both scholarships and general university funding.
Trump Sued After Sending Data to Elon Musk
The Trump administration is already being sued for transferring sensitive government data to Elon Musk. The suit alleges that The White House has been sending data on federal employees to a representative at xAI, an artificial intelligence company owned and operated by Musk. The lawsuit presents significant security risks as sensitive federal data is now being stored on servers owned by Musk’s private tech company.
Some are questioning if Trump’s federal job slashing was inspired by Musk’s takeover of Twitter, which he kicked off with massive layoffs.
RFK Jr. Confirmation Hearing Set for Today
The confirmation hearing for Robert Kennedy Jr. is scheduled for Wednesday. On Tuesday, Caroline Kennedy urged Congress not to confirm her cousin, referring to him as a “predator.” In July 2024, RFK Jr. apologized to a family babysitter that accused him of sexual assault. RFK Jr. is primarily controversial for his anti-science beliefs, including that “no vaccine that is safe and effective” and that COVID-19 was somehow designed to spare Chinese and Jewish people.
If confirmed, RFK Jr. would be responsible for overseeing the largest government agencies responsible for the health and wellness of Americans.
